This Chardonnay is a subtle mix of stone fruit, nectarine and white peach aromas, with hints of sweet ground almonds and toasted oak. The complex flavours on the palate are complimented by a full bodied structure, with a lees influence. The vanilla and primary fruit characters complement the well balanced natural acidity, leaving the wine with a long creamy vanilla finish.
The Casillero del Diablo Merlot is bright dark and deep purple. Subtle aromas of chocolate, dark plums, red berries and spices, with hints of vanilla and smoke. Medium-bodied, with lovely tannins, velvety texture, rich and a long, pretty finish.
Closeburn is Chard Farm's un-oaked Chardonnay. The fruit is grown throughout the Central Otago region and exhibits the regions natural elegant fruit flavours and mineral complexity. The wine is fermented in tank to retain its bright fruit. It is then left to rest on its yeast lees to gain some doughy complexity and softness. This is a refreshing full-bodied wine, unencumbered by oak and superb with food. Juicy nectarine and pear fruits, with apple blossom floral tones giving a nice lift to the attractive bouquet. The palate displays wonderful purity of tree fruit flavour. There is a nice flow to the structure and length, with good balance and chewy acidity.
River Run is Chard Farm's Central Otago regional Pinot Noir made from grapes grown in their vineyards in different sub-regions of Central Otago. The deep alpine valleys and waterways of Central Otago have craved the land available for grape growing into quite distinct sub-regions. Each pocket of land has its own unique climate and soil mix producing quite different styles of Pinot Noir. River Run captures the character of each of the sub-regions where are vineyards are planted. Lowburn gives bright, fresh sweet fruit, Gibbston savory and herbal tones, and Parkburn brings good texture and mineral length. An expressive and complex bouquet with sweet floral notes swirling around ripe cherry and plum fruit with aromatic spice in the background. There's ample fresh fruit and velvety tannin on a palate that is elegant, satisfying and highly drinkable.
